Hurricanes Blow Through Senators

Raleigh, NC (AP) -

Coming off a 3-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets the Ottawa Senators flew down to Raleigh to face the 0-1-0 Carolina Hurricanes who lost a close game against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Carolina Hurricanes are a team that is going to be a measuring stick for the Sens because they are veteran laden team who is coming off a devastating Stanley Cup loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

As for the Senators they were coming off a strong performance out in Winnipeg and dominated the game entirely, and at first last nights game against the Hurricanes looked to be more of the same. The Senators took a 2-0 lead with goals from Vladamir Sobotka (1G), and Vincent Lecavalier (1G) within the first seven minutes of the game. Then it came crashing down to an end when Vincent Lecavalier, and Ron Hainsey took penalties to give the Canes a 5-3 advantage, and Pavel Datsyuk scored twice and capitalized on the penalties to tie the game up.

Senators took the lead 3-2 on a power play goal of their own from Marian Gaborik (2G). Then the Hurricanes really took control of the game and shut the Senators offense out with four unanswered goals by Mike Fisher, Andrew MacDonald, Jiri Hudler, and Pascal Dupuis. Early in the second they ended up chasing Tuukka Rask who was a brick wall in the first game, ended up turning into a sieve in game two,

Our penalty kill unit was terrible the Hurricanes went four for five, you wont win many games like that, but lets be objective here no team goes eighty-two and oh, it was a bad game, this isn’t how the Ottawa Senators play, nor will we continue to play that way, you can take that to the bank. We‘ll be adjusting our lines and try to spruce up our chemistry a little.”, said Ron Wilson

The reeling Senators now head home for their home opener against the New York Rangers (1-0-1). The Senators will have their hands full as youngster Tyler Seguin and their big off-season splash Mike Richards have been on fire. Here are the projected lineup for the Senators for game three.

Michael Ryder - Patrik Berglund - Marian Gaborik
Matt Read - Vincent Lecavalier - Nathan Horton
Sam Gagner - Artem Anisimov - Kyle Okposo
Andrew Cogliano - Vladamir Sobotka - Radek Dvorak

Toni Lydman - Alex Goligoski
