Gabroik Finally Heading to Ottawa

Ottawa –

The most talked about deal, and arguably the biggest offseason blockbuster has been confirmed by the league today. Marian Gaborik is heading to Ottawa from the Los Angeles Kings. The deal was submitted four times before it was a no movement clause, then went under league review which caused both sides to resubmit a new deal which was finally past early this morning.

“I’m happy this is done, we had our deal all worked out three months ago, and finally its official. Now we can bring all our focus on free agency.”, said Burkholder.

Gaborik is no stranger to the Northeast Division, playing with division rival Buffalo Sabres for seven seasons before leaving in free agency and signing with the Kings for one of the biggest contracts in OTHL history. Gaborik will bring instant credibility on a reworked Ottawa Senators offense.

In exchange the Kings got goalie Malcolm Subban, and defenseman Matt Finn who was drafting in the first round in the 2012 OTHL Draft. Subban has incredible pedigree and looks like he could be a true number one starter. Matt Finn is a slick puck moving defenseman who is going to be skating up in the OTHL very soon. The more intriguing prospect coming to Los Angeles is the second best scoring prospect Ben Hanowski, which was rated the Senators 11th prospect on the teams list. They also received two second round picks, and a fourth round pick.

Last two days the major rumors have been that the Senators brought flew a free agent into Ottawa, it is unknown who it is, but an insider says it’s a big time player and they are going very aggressive after.

Here are the projected line ups for the Senators.

Offense
Sam Gagner – Patrik Berglund – Marian Gaborik
Matt Read – Tim Connolly – Devin Setoguchi
Marcus Johansson – Andrew Cogliano – Milan Hejduk
Blake Geoffrion – Jay Beagle – Brian McGratten

Defense
Robyn Regehr – Alex Goligoski
Ron Hainsey – Nicklas Grossman
Radek Martinek – Matt Smaby
