Ottawa, Ontario (CP) –
In less than a month the Ottawa Senators have made another trade with the Los Angeles Kings, in exchange the Ottawa Senators land veteran lethal scoring winger Michael Ryder. It came at a steep price heading to L.A. is former first round pick Beau Bennett who has had a great season at Denver University despite having a few fluke injuries, along with Beau goes center man Daniel Catenacci the former first overall pick in the OHL has been a point per game player for the Owen Sound Attack, and if that wasn’t enough went a second and third round picks in the 2014 OTHL Entry Draft.
The price was steep, but adds in another scoring dimension for the Senators who have seem to make it a focus on keep adding to an offense which now looks to be one of the deadliest offenses in OTHL this upcoming season. Now the Senators have acquired the starting three forwards from the 2011-12 Los Angeles Kings roster, with a trade that picked up Marian Gaborik, now Michael Ryder, and going out and signing Vincent Lecavalier on the free agent market. Statistically from last season the Senators have ended up picking up 40% which is equivalent to 85 goals of the Kings scoring by adding those three.
“We were looking out on the free agent market, and seeing what was out there because we really needed to add another big time scoring winger, and we had a offer on several players, and we thought lets work the phones, and this deal ended up happening.”, said Burkholder.
Rumors were swirling they had a massive offer out on Michael Cammalleri on the free agent market which mostly seems to be a dead offer now with the addition to Ryder. When the press asked about future moves GM Burkholder had this to say.
“We still need to add a piece or two to our defense and we’ll feel more comfortable, and we have the allotted amount of offers per the CBA, so now it’s a waiting game. If not we might have to go out and search for other avenues to fill that spot.”, said Burkholder
Now since were in the middle of the free agency market and the roster is looking a little bit more clear here is the projected line ups for the 2012-13 Ottawa Senators.
